Chapter Twelve

Zach did not understand the power of the Smolder…and Jenna wasn’t about to explain, since she was too busy getting the breath kissed out of her.

One question had been answered at least. He was a dive-right-in type. A possess-your-soul kisser. Once he decided he wanted something, he just went after it with the same single-minded intensity with which he did everything else. At the moment, he was using that drive to turn Jenna to mush. She was cool with that.

His arms tightened around her waist and slammed her against his hard body. His hand sifted through her hair as he turned her head to get just the right angle to deepen the kiss. His lips were demanding, sweeping over hers, demanding she give him everything the Smolder promised and more. That kiss was lethal. Intoxicating. And, she feared, could quickly become addictive.

A wolf whistle saved them from public indecency and another very bad decision.

Zach raised his head, and they turned to see that at least half the patrons at the bar were watching them. One guy held up his mug in salute. Several others clapped and yelled encouragement to Zach.

The waitress sauntered over with the check and a pizza box.

“Thought you might want that to go,” she said with a wink. “You two have been heating up the place since you walked in here.”

Jenna blinked, still a little dazed. Zach let go of her so fast, she almost fell. He took the box, handed the woman a few bills from his wallet, then took Jenna’s hand and led her out of the bar, the sound of catcalls and lewd suggestions following them.

Once they were out in the air on the sidewalk, her head cleared a little, and she stopped walking.

“Wait, Zach,” she said.

He stopped and turned to face her, looking not a lot more steady than she was.

“What happens now?”

“Nothing,” he said. “It was a mistake.”

“No. Don’t be like that.”

“Like what?”

“Like you didn’t want the same thing I wanted.”

He let out a long breath. “I can’t do the relationship thing, Jenna.”

Jenna barked out a laugh. “Do you think that’s what I want after just breaking off my engagement? Maybe I just want sex. Hard, fast, rebound sex.”

Zach looked at her, puzzled.

“Stop staring at me like I’m a foreign species,” she said, suddenly angry. “Tell me what you want.”

“I want you to be happy.”

Screw. That. She got up in his face then. “What do you want right now? This instant?”

She could see him getting angrier. His jaw tensed, his eyes dark, boring into hers.

“You. I want you. On me, over me, wrapped around me.”

Oof. She’d pushed him past the nice guy routine. “Good,” she shot back. “Because that’s exactly what I want, too.”

“I’m leaving tomorrow morning,” Zach said, setting the pizza box down on a bench.

It squeezed her heart a little, his leaving. But that didn’t mean she didn’t want to screw him stupid tonight. “We’ve got, like, ten hours to do all the things we’ve been thinking about doing to each other before you board that plane.
